Model United Nations while in High School (2013-2014)

The Model UN is an extracurricular activity run by students in which the proceedings of the United Nations are simulated in a conference setting (for more information please visit: http://bestdelegate.com/what-is-model-united-nations/)

I initially attended the model United Nations as part of the press group- taking pictures and writing articles for the daily newspaper. I later attended a few times as a delegate, where I received an excellent debater award, and I was later chosen to be Director of the Press in my school’s MUN. Whenever I had an MUN conference coming up, I prepared myself by reading articles and conducting interviews regarding the issues to be considered. For me, the MUN was the occasion to deeply discuss local or international topics that were very meaningful for me. When I was in high school, I wanted to better understand those issue areas that were not covered in school. Therefore, I started attending the different MUN’s to be more aware of problems around the world, and to enhance my debating and speaking skills. Both my perseverance and performance as a delegate brought me to leadership positions in the different MUN’s and school organizations, and it gave me the opportunity to grow in a direction different from what my high school regularly offered.

On the other hand, MUN is not only a matter of learning about history and politics but also of discovering other important skills. For example, during my time as Chief of Press, I also developed unexpected abilities, such as proof-reading, editing the information to be published, and defending the freedom of the press. In the end, I realized what a good debater I could be: I became less nervous when speaking in front of a big audience and supporting my arguments. One of the most appealing things of MUN is to create a forum in which all students of similar interests can discuss a variety of issues at their own volition.
