Laura Gómez Cadena

Laura Gomez Cadena was born and raised in Cali, Colombia, and recently graduated from The George Washington University, in Washington, D.C. Where she pursued a double a double major in Economics and International Affairs, with a concentration in Latin America. During high school, Laura completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, taking courses taught both in English and Spanish from a range of topics, like Philosophy, Biology, Spanish, Mathematics, History, and English- courses that strengthened her determination to pursue the professional track she completed. Additionally, during her high school years, Laura had the opportunity to study abroad in multiple countries, such as Germany, France, and England, where she not only explored the language and culture of these societies, but also where she immersed herself in the academic institutions of such countries, making her a person who will be able to quickly adapt to different and unfamiliar environments.

As a college student, Laura worked as an IT Service Quality Team Intern at The World Bank Group, where she was in charge of supporting a team with a variety of tasks. That ranged from putting together surveys to compiling data . She also interned at a cancer foundation in Colombia, and was a Resident Advisor for on-campus housing at GW, where she was in charge of more than 70 students. Laura has held leadership positions on campus, such as being a part of GW’s Model United Nations, worked two consecutive years for the Student Association representing the international student body, and served as vice-president for the organization GW PorColombia, where she started a partnership with the Colombian Embassy in order to increase professional opportunities for GW students who find an interest in Colombia. Laura currently works at the International Finance Corporation at the CIT department.

Laura is fluent in English and Spanish, and is in the process of learning French; She is interested in topics such as gender equality, economic development, education, public health, and entrepreneurship.
