The World Bank Group Summer Internship (2016)

During the summer of 2016, I worked at the International Finance Corporation. My duties throughout this summer job were: helping to organize events and meetings for the unit, maintaining and analyzing databases to be used for specific reporting activities, analyzing data and documents to compile statistics, creating graphs showing results that will be used for presentations, coordinating schedules, monitoring changes, and communicating information to staff inside and outside the immediate work unit. My learning objectives for my summer job at the World Bank were understanding the organization better, acquiring working skills that could make me competitive in professional fields, and understanding appropriate office etiquette.

The World Bank Group (2018)

I achieved all of these objectives because I was able to network with many people around the World Bank Group, widening my understanding of the organization. In my job I also acquired a set of skills in the use of technology systems, such as Microsoft Outlook, Cisco WebEx, Jabber, SPARK, Box, SAP, and Survey Monkey. These are all valuable skills within World Bank units that could make me a desirable candidate in future opportunities, both within this particular organization and outside of it. The skills I learned were used in many instances.

An interesting project that I worked on was coordinating the logistics between the IFC and GW regarding initiatives that could better benefit both institutions. These initiatives aimed to increase the effectiveness of the recruitment of GW students into the World Bank. The resources that I used to complete this project were not only the many software tools that I had acquired through my time at the World Bank, but also the social skills I had developed from my leadership positions at GW. These resources facilitated conversations with senior officials at the World Bank and with GW administrators to eventually increase students’ opportunities at the IFC.

What I enjoyed the most from working at the IFC was being able to interact with people with more experience, acquiring the set of skills I learned, and knowing that I was able to meet the expectations of my team. Being able to interact professionally with people that had more years’ experience in the work environment gave me ideas of what the work spectrum in that area might look like in the future. The people I spoke to shared their experiences, which I feel contributes to my personal and professional growth. After this experience and the knowledge I gained, I feel very confident in my abilities to succeed in future career endeavors.

I really appreciate everyone in the CITSQ team for their guidance, support and for giving me such a great opportunity from which I learned so many things.
